Waiting since June of 2008, things are back in full swing. For those of you who have no idea what the Game in the Making OSoCD project is about, you're not alone. I'm not going to go into full detail in this blog entry, however, if you are curious about the project guidelines and processes please visit www.gameinthemaking.com.
June 1st 2008 was the the official pre-launch to the website, available for all registrations and really just available to discuss what will happen with the site, meet other people interested, and give the general idea behind everything to the public. The official power launch of the site will be determined by content development, but sooner is always much better than later.
For those not fully aware, a power launch is an official global introduction to a website on a LARGE scale. The sites content becomes fully available, press releases are sent out, every social network worldwide receives info, virals take place(people go spread the word), emails are sent, people are called, sent txts, etc... Just about every way of informing the world takes place, in ONE day.
What I'm curious about is, who would like to help? I'm looking for people willing to do ANYTHING to help out the day of the launch. This can include writing about it in forums, Digg'ing it, discussing it on social networks, news sites, blogs, or even your personal website. In addition to this, anyone willing to post links to the site on their blog, website, myspace, facebook, friendster or anything else would be greatly appreciated :). Another thing that would really help out on the day of the launch is to just visit the website. Or maybe tell some friends to visit the website. The recorded high traffic on the first day of the site can really make or break it as far as the media is concerned. We will be doing good things, we will be doing them for free, we will be giving back to the community- why not just check it out day of?
Furthermore, anyone who has the alexa toolbar installed(which you SHOULD, it's fascinating) please visit the site when you think of it. After the prelaunch the site jumped to top 200,000 most trafficed sites. Our goal was top 100,000 but 200,000 is still satisfying for a website that has virtually nothing on it beyond a mission statement. Within 2 months of the power launch we are going to aim for a 3-4 digit ranking. Our ideal # being in the top 1000 most traficed websites, which if everything turns out according to the plan, should be achievable. All we really need is YOUR help.
If you are interested in helping in ANY way, even if that's just visiting the site briefly the day of the launch, please leave us your email address in the comments, send an email to johnux@gameinthemaking.com, or use the contact page on the site.
If you are curious about the status of the project here's the run down...
1. We are working on our tutorial series. Not just one aspect of the development process, but multiple topics/platforms.
2. We are communicating with affiliates for products, coverage, help, and the final secret phase of the project.
3. We are working on our marketing packages that we are going to email/mail to different people. Additionally this will be available on several blogs, social profiles, the site, and on our listed project pages (source forge, google code)
4. We are designing subsections of the site for specific platforms and working out incompatibilities with mobile browsers, PSP, PS3, and Internet Explorer.
5. We are currently working on a SISTER project to accompany the main project at launch. This is a total secret(yes, lots of secrets) but we are QUITE excited about it and have been working closely with various foundations to get stuff licensed and fully ready for deployment.
No, we will not be at GDC or E3 this year. I'm not even sure if we will be at Linux World later. The project is still in it's development stages and we are not fully ready to go public with everything just yet.
I know it has been a while since any type of real updates to the public, but we are still alive and we are still excited and looking forward to sharing our visions with the world. Please, send us your email addresses :)
Thanks,
Johnux
